The IPL is a great opportunity not only for Indian players but also for foreign players to join the national team. This season was a golden opportunity for many players to make the national team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup. Although the 14th season has been halted halfway through, the performance so far in the tournament is sure to be considered for the team selection for the T20 World Cup.

While foreign players, including Moin Ali, Chris Morris and Kyle Jamison, impressed the selectors with their performances, some did not. Let's take a look at some of the foreign players who have made it difficult to make the national team for the T20 World Cup with poor performances in the IPL.

Jay Richardson (three wickets, Punjab Kings)

Jay Richardson, the Australian who acquired the Punjab Kings at a cost of Rs 14 crore, has disappointed in the IPL. Pace bowler and great batsman Richardson has not been able to make a move in his IPL debut season. Punjab have played him in only three matches. Richardson took just three wickets at a poor economy rate of 10.63. With this, Punjab lost faith in the player and was dropped from the playing XI. Punjab did not receive any contribution from Richardson, not only in bowling but also in batting.

Richardson played in five T20s for Australia earlier this year. He returned to the national team two years later. Richardson took just four wickets in five matches. With the flop in the IPL too, Australia are unlikely to consider him for the T20 World Cup.

Tom Karen (One wicket, Delhi Capitals)

England pace bowling all-rounder Tom Karen has been with Delhi Capitals in the IPL this season. Tom also had chances in the absence of Kagiso Rabada and Antich Norcia in the early matches of the season. But the performance was pathetic. At an economy rate of 9.78, Tom has taken just one wicket in two matches. He later lost his place in the DC team.

Tom could not repeat this when his brother Sam Karen became a regular presence in the Chennai Super Kings with a stellar performance. The 26-year-old is not a first-choice player in England's fixed-overs squad. However, if he had done well for DC in the IPL, Tom would have had a chance to return to the England squad.

Nicholas Pooran (28, Punjab Kings)

West Indies batsman and wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran had a stellar performance for the Punjab Kings in the IPL last season. But this season the player turned out to be a big disaster. Four times in six innings, Deccan Pooran scored a total of 28 runs. The highest score was 19. Following this, Punjab dropped Puran in the last match and replaced him with David Malan.

Pooran arrived in India for the IPL after a stellar performance in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. But the West Indies player could not repeat the form in the Punjab shirt. Pooran has been described as the next superstar in West Indies cricket. His poor performance in the IPL could lead to his omission from the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup.
